Breezy is a normal pure breed Chow Chow. Most of the time she is very good with family and visitors. She has bitten friends and family members upon being woke and startled. Additionally she has a food aggression and is very afraid of loud noises (Fireworks) She has been with us since a pup and I have a new job assignment that has me traveling and she needs a dominant figure to do better for her than I can.

Chow Chow    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

rockstar is a sweet boy. 3 years ago he bit someone when he was startled at night while he was on narcotics for pain management 3 weeks after surgery for a torn acl. his teeth were removed because of this. i was in the process of adopting him from a local shelter when this happened. he had been caught in the woods and his owners were never found. he's was about 1 1/2 years old then. he lived with another male chow and they got along well. i moved from there over a year ago and he adjusted well. he loves to play and go on walks and sleep. he recently tore his other acl playing and i opted not to have surgery for him. instead i took him ... (Read More)to a specialist that casted his leg and made a brace. i have recently taken a new job that has long hours and feel he deserves better than i am able to give him right now. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-07-03-00219Sweetie (female)

Chow Chow Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sweetie is 6 year old female black Chow Chow x Labrador. Sweetie's name says it all! She is a quiet, kind, gentle girl who has all the love in the world to give and just needs a loving, quiet home to fit her personality. She is always not dog friendly so she needs an only dog home, though she is not an outgoing aggressor so she can go places with her family like dog friendly stores or camping & hiking where she will be in close proximity to other dogs. She has a high prey drive because of her Chow Chow heritage so she cannot have any small animals in her home such as cats and would prefer a home without children. She does not have any ... (Read More)resource guarding issues whatsoever. She is very well house trained and crate trained. She doesn't require a lot of exercise so an apartment style home would be fine for her, a short walk once a day and she is content. She does serve well as a watch dog but not so much as guard dog. She is 100% healthy, UTD on all vaccines, heartworm/lyme negative and spayed. If you are interested in adopting our wonderful girl Sweetie, please email us for an adoption application at (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-03-00311Bennie (male)

Chow Chow Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello! Our rescue recently fostered a chow mix which is still in need of his furever home. He is a great guy and would do perfect with an older couple. He's very laid back and is always up for a walk or a nap! Bennie weighs in at about 35 pounds and he is up to date on all vaccines and flee/tick treatment. Bennie currently lives with two dogs and has been great with cats in the past. Bennie would do best in a single family home because even though he doesn't bark often when his owners are home, he will once you leave so no apartments please but he does extremely well in his crate and even being left home alone. He does great with our older ... (Read More)submissive dog but sometimes him and our other younger retriever mix will fight but it is only because they both want all the attention. Please don't let that scare you away as he is one of the best dogs we've had and we wish that we could keep him but we do not want either of the boys getting hurt so that is why we are seeking a home immediately. He loves to play with toys, go on walks, and also just to lay down with his owner. Bennie would do best with someone who has owned a chow in the past because although he is a very lovable dog he also can put up his guard which is why I would not personally suggest him around kids. His previous owners who gave him up had two younger kids but if you accidentally hurt him he will let you know and I would hate to see a child get hurt by him but he has never bitten me just will get testy if you yell at him which is why we suspect he may have been abused in the past. Bennie is such a good boy and I've tried everything to make it work for us to be able to adopt him ourselves but we would rather him be appreciated with someone who can give him all the attention that he needs. Please consider Bennie when thinking of another dog because he is such a great dog for experiencing what he has. If you have owned a chow before this then i think that you could really appreciate Bennie for being how he is. Please feel free to call or message me with any questions or if you'd like to meet Bennie, Thanks a bunch! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Chow Chow in Pennsylvania
Chow Chow Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. The Chow Chow is a big furry breed whose name literally means Puffy Lion Dog. Chow Chows are loyal companion animals but can sometimes be stubborn, obstinate, and overprotective against strangers. Chow chows need to be handled by a firm master. Chow chows can be aggressive with other pets but most are good with kids. Chow chows can live in an apartment and are equally good as inside or outside dogs. Daily walks help stave off behavior problems, although Chow Chows can be resistant to exercise.
