He was covered in fleas and ticks and looked like he hadn't eaten in weeks and I believe he needs a second Chance so if anyone knows a rescue that could step up and take him or ... (Read More)could donate money to getting him adopted I know he would appreciate it. Everyone animal deserves a second Chance (Less)

Chow Chow Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Contact benefactor direct Cheryl Doorbar is the point of contact Her contact info is cdoorbar@gmail.com and her number is 562-234-9944. This is Lady. She is small mixed breed and is about 10 years old. Her owner recently passed away and she needs a good home. My cousin is a friend of the family and heard they were thinking of putting her down. She just got a 'summer' hair cut, but is normally fluffy. Because her owner had been ill for a little while, her fur had gotten a little matted. My cousin says she is very sweet. She is used to other dogs, since was living with pack pal, 'Shorty' (who has found a home). My cousin says she will ... (Read More)have her checked by a vet and drive her to her new home. Please forward to anyone you think might want to adopt a sweet older girl. Per vet visit today and here is the assessment: Her age is 11+ based on the condition of lens in eyes. Eyes are good. Teeth - have some tartar. He gave her current caretaker some toothpaste for her that you just rub on her teeth. Vet thinks she is a Chow mix Weight: 53 lbs. Rt. Foreleg - has 1cm mass - benign - normal for her age Left Thigh - 1 small mass - benign - normal for her age. Heart rate low - may be due to her disposition or breed - nothing to worry about. Osteoarthritis in hips - Vitamins should help to improve - current caretaker bought big bottle plus Fish Oil daily - 500 mg. If she has any pain later he recommends NSAIDS - but she seems fine for now. So, overall good health for that age. Has a little trouble hoping up in car, but that is all I see. Caretaker got a certificate that she has been spayed too. Per her current caretaker, she has a docile and sweet disposition. Likes to go on walks and ride in the car. (Less)

Yogi is one great dog, he sweet and affectionate and very good natured. His owner found him walking around on the freeway, but despite his terrible experience, he's the nicest dog! Sadly, his owner recently passed away from cancer, so now we are looking for GOOD homes for his dogs. He gets along great with other dogs and is excellent with kids. One look into Yogi's beautiful brown eyes and you will fall in love!

This is Griffin. Griffin is an extremely sweet small (45lbs) Chow mix. The reason we are looking at re-homing Griffin is due to the relationship between him and our other dog. For the past 4 years, Griffin and his brother Eddy have been best buds. We recently had our first child and ever since then, the dynamic between the two dogs changed. They still get along 99.9% of the time but when they get into it, the fighting is too much for us to handle. He is also very timid around our daughter and that makes us nervous. On his own, he is a very loving dog. All he wants is to be by your side. He doesn't like cats or other animals (besides ... (Read More)Eddy). I want to give full disclosure about our Griffy. When we adopted him, we very quickly found out that he had a renal disease (kidneys). The vet said it was due to the chow rescue we got him from going the cheap way out when he was neutered. Apparently, his body didn't like being under when he was being fixed and since he wasn't monitored, it damaged his kidneys. Ever since then, his health has stabilized and as of the past 1-2 years, his numbers have improved. This is going to be an issue with him eventually but as of now, he is very healthy. We are so very sad to be re-homing him but we know its best for him. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. He really is an amazing dog and if given the chance, he can make a new family very happy. We are requesting a re-homing fee of $150. We will be donating that money to our local shelter. We just want to make sure you are serious about adopting our dog. (Less)

A note from Honey's foster family: Honey is a healthy, 13-year old Chow mix. She has been living at Casa McKibben since February 18th, 2014. Honey needs a new 'furever' home where she can live out her retirement years. Honey is a rescue that was adopted by her family about 11 years ago. Due to a work assignment situation, her family will be living in Dubai for the foreseeable future. Although her family loves and misses her so much, it's virtually impossible for them to take Honey to Dubai with them. They are hoping to re-home her permanently with a loving family. Honey is VERY quiet and well-behaved. She NEVER barks ... even when ... (Read More)there's someone at the door and the other dogs are going crazy. She minds her own business and spends most of the day just hanging out in the house. She can do stairs on a leash, but she definitely prefers to stay on the ground floor '| even at night. Since we have all sorts of dogs coming and going all the time at Casa McKibben, we are very careful to supervise her introductions. When meeting new dogs, Honey goes nose-to-nose and wags her tail. She really appreciates other dogs that respect her space and don't bump into her or try to play with her. Even around high-energy dogs, Honey gets along very well so long as they don't knock into her. The other dogs seem to figure out pretty quickly that Honey just likes to be left alone. Honey enjoys taking long walks around our pool and will sometimes walk for 30-60 minutes at a time ... stopping often to enjoy the smells in the backyard. She really enjoys leash walks around the neighborhood, although you have to take it kind of slow and give her lots of breaks to rest. Like any senior dog, Honey really loves long naps. We have an orthopedic pad right in front of the TV in our den. She even watches TV with us sometimes when there's something on that interests her. Honey enjoys her food VERY much and is always interested in what's going on in the kitchen. She's a really good house guest and doesn't chew on anything. She knows how to use our doggy door with no problems at all. She is very good about going outside through the doggy door whenever she needs to relieve herself. We don't know how Honey would get along with cats since there are none at Casa McKibben. She's a slow mover and not into chasing anything, so it's probable that she would just leave any resident cats alone. Honey is safe and sound for now at Casa McKibben, so this is not an emergency situation. If you can help us find Honey a good home, please contact Mark McKibben at (626) 888-1544 or my email: mark@mckibben.com THANKS!!! (Less)

My name is Alex, and I am a 9-year-old boy and I weigh 65lbs. I am a Samoyed/Chow mix and yes I have been DNA tested. If you would ask me, Id say I am a lucky dog. I was found wandering the streets, and it was not easy to get me to safety. I was so scared. For the first several days, I would not let anyone get close enough to touch me, but then I bonded with my foster mommy in a big way and showed her how sweet and playful I really am. Do not be worried if I do not get attached to you right away, it takes me a little while to bond, but when I do, its forever! I have separation issues and would be best placed in a home with another dog and ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Chow Chow in California
Chow Chow Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Chow Chow is a big furry breed whose name literally means Puffy Lion Dog. Chow Chows are loyal companion animals but can sometimes be stubborn, obstinate, and overprotective against strangers. Chow chows need to be handled by a firm master. Chow chows can be aggressive with other pets but most are good with kids. Chow chows can live in an apartment and are equally good as inside or outside dogs. Daily walks help stave off behavior problems, although Chow Chows can be resistant to exercise.
