Tuff is a two-year-old, 36-pound Chow Chow mix who recently came to Home Fur Good from the county shelter. He is on the smaller side in stature, but he is still soft and fluffy, with an adorable bob tail. A Chow Chow will conduct himself with reserve; Tuff is calm and polite. He is crate trained and patient, finding comfort in his kennel. Tuff is not suspicious of strangers; he is willing and eager to go on an adventure with anyone who gives him the offer. The adoption fee is $200 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit with our vet. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm, and Mondays by appointment, and we are located at 10220 N. 32nd Street (just south of Shea Blvd.) in Phoenix. We offer a low-cost vaccine clinic on Sundays from 11:00 am-2:30 pm, and a low-cost dental clinic on Wednesdays by appointment. Visit our website at www.homefurgood.org for more information. (Less)

Little Zeus, soon to be big Zeus is a German Shepherd and chow mix. He is just 12 weeks old and is looking for a home that will be able to supply lots of exercise and positive stimulation. He will be a larger dog, so will need room to run. Right now he is very playful and ready to begin training to be a great citizen. Zeus is looking for a family to love him forever. This is not the type of dog you have for a short time, this is a family member for life. If you would love to meet Zeus please contact us, you will not be disappointed by this awesome boy!

Animal ID: A3869022Buddy (male)
Buddy was a stray that we adopted through Maricopa County. He's current on all shots. Buddy is great with adults and kids, but has an issue with our male dachsund mix. He is too obsessed with our cats. He would be wonderful as an only dog, he has a great sweet heart.

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-02-00413Daisy (female)
My wife and I adopted Daisy 3 years ago when she was just 2 months old. Although we are certain she thinks she is part cat...from the moment we brought her home Daisy has been nothing but amazing. She was potty trained after just 2 days, chews only on her toys and absolutely LOVES going on walks (but is just as happy taking a nap instead if it's too hot out)! She is her happiest when she can run around in a big backyard for a bit and after, tuck herself away some place quiet to rest. Unfortunately, Daisy started showing signs of aggression last year towards our other dog, our 2 cats and most recently my wife. The behaviorist said that this is due to her being territorial to me. Ultimately, we believe the only way for her to be happy, is if she is the only pet in the household. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-20-00659Cleo (female)
My daughter and I adopted Cleo two years ago from a shelter. She has a gentle spirit and was sad and scared, not wanting to go on walks or even eat - but she has blossomed, she loves walks and is still very gentle and loving at home with me and my daughter and our friends. Super loyal - we can leave the door wide open and she never tries to run away. Cleo has gotten a lot better on the leash and responds well to treats, but this is my first dog and she does bark and want to run up to other dogs. She has never snapped at another dog but she has growled. With gentle introduction, things go much better. We both love Cleo very much, but our lives are getting busier and we are not able to give Cleo enough attention and exercise to make her truly happy. She ends up being alone a lot and while she's never had an accident in the house, she has started chewing things like tissue boxes or books, and I think it's because she needs more attention. She does not like riding in the car and she does bark when people come to the door. She has a micro-chip and genetic testing, which shows she's half chow chow, half lab and a little bit of husky. Overall, Cleo is a sweet, loving, loyal girl who loves to lay in the hot sun and loves to run. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-10-08-00416Alvin (male)
Alvin is a 1 yr old chow shar-pei mix. He was first brought into PACC as a stray, but now has a loving foster home and searching for a forever home. Alvin is just a bundle of energy. His favorite thing in the world is going for a nice long morning run or hike. He will need a home that will be able to provide him with plenty of exercise, and ideally a fenced in yard for him to run around in. In fact, he loves running so much that he doesn't even need to chase a toy to get going. Actually, he will forget he even had a toy in the first place once he starts running. Alvin will do best in a home where there are no other dogs, and no young kids; he does not quite understand the importance of being gentle while playing or when eating a treat. His favorite pastimes include hogging the bed, following his foster mommy around the house, and destroying his toys. No toy can withstand his might. (Less)

Chow Chow Dogs can make good pets in Arizona if they match your IifestyIe. The Chow Chow is a big furry breed whose name literally means Puffy Lion Dog. Chow Chows are loyal companion animals but can sometimes be stubborn, obstinate, and overprotective against strangers. Chow chows need to be handled by a firm master. Chow chows can be aggressive with other pets but most are good with kids. Chow chows can live in an apartment and are equally good as inside or outside dogs. Daily walks help stave off behavior problems, although Chow Chows can be resistant to exercise.
